There were speculations that Blake Griffin would cross town. It isn’t likely now. But with less than two weeks left for the deadlines, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to trade for centers Hassan Whiteside and Greg Monroe.
The swap of Roy Hibbert for Monroe could work out. The Milwaukee Bucks signed Monroe on a three-year deal for $50 million six months ago but are already looking to trade him off, as reported by Morning News USA last week. The Bucks are near the bottom of Eastern Conference standings. Monroe’s inclusion didn’t really work for them.
Roy Hibbert wasn’t up to the mark with the Lakers as well, reports the Inquisitr. So a trade might benefit both ends. The 25-year-old Monroe has averaged 16.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game this season. But his defense let the Bucks down.
Miami Heat are looking to move Whiteside. And the Lakers are interested in the extremely talented center, according to Sportsblog. Averaging 12 points, 11 rebounds and 3.9 blocks, Whiteside has shown his marvel as defensively dominant center. Kevin Pelton in his article for ESPN first linked Whiteside to Lakers.
Who would become their trade bait to bring Whiteside is still a question. It could be Hibbert, and something more is required to land Whiteside at the Lakers. So Roy Nance Jr could be added in the exchange.
Center Whiteside is expected to gel well with Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle and D’Angelo Russell. At 11-42, last in the standings, and Kobe Bryant retiring after this season, would this be enough for the Lakers to script a turnaround?
A last-minute deal for Whiteside and Monroe is on the cards.
