With the February 18 deadline approaching, the trade rumor mills are on full swing. The latest reports suggest that the New York Knicks are eyeing Chicago Bulls’ Pau Gasol by trading Arron Afflalo.
The Knicks have won six of their nine games and are very much in the reckoning for the playoffs. The front office is trying to build up a roster capable of handling the pressure of the post-season. The Knicks are currently behind the Boston Celtics, who hold the eight place in the Eastern Conference.
But to improve from a 20-21 position, the Knicks need more production and variety from their guards. Jose Calderon, New York’s starting guard, needs to deliver more.
Eyeing the playoffs, the franchise has targeted big names in the point-guard position like Chicago Bulls’ star Pau Gasol. The Bulls are gauging trade interests for men like Joakim Noah and Gasol to clear their front-court logjam. Reports suggest that Gasol is the man likely to be traded. Gasol will become a free agent this summer.
The Knicks are trying to trade off shooting guard Arron Afflalo to ensure the rejoining of the two-time NBA champion with Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher. Afflalo’s scoring abilities from the perimeter would fit Fred Hoiberg’s strategy.
