NBA Trade Rumors: Sacramento Kings Eyeing Ricky Rubio? Ben McLemore, Rudy Gay Moving Out Soon?

The Sacramento Kings are finally in a position to acquire the pass-first point guard it has been craving for all these years. The question now is will they?

The team’s point-guard rotation is currently one-man deep. Only Darren Collison is guaranteed a roster spot for the 2016-17 NBA season. The Kings have the necessary pieces to remedy the situation.

Sacramento can trade away one or two of its wing players in exchange for a reliable backup point guard, a player who could play alongside Collison if needed.

Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio could be a good fit to the Kings. The Timberwolves’ decision to draft NCAA stud Kris Dunn has sparked rumors that Rubio could be on his way out of Minneapolis. Sacramento is being mentioned as a potential landing spot for the Spaniard.

Hoops Habit indicated that Rubio would be a good puzzle piece for the Kings. He would add much-needed point guard depth to the team, especially now that Rajon Rondo and Seth Curry have signed with the Chicago Bulls and the Dallas Mavericks, respectively.

In order to acquire Rubio, the Kings can trade talented but inconsistent shooting guard Ben McLemore to the Timberwolves. To make the offer even more appealing, the Kings can package McLemore with either Kosta Koufos, Willie Cauley-Stein or Skal Labissiere.

According to A Royal Pain, McLemore was already receiving interests from other teams midway through last season. However, a deal was never reached.

This offseason, McLemore has once again found himself at the center of trade rumors after the Kings signed shooting guards Arron Afflalo and Garrett Temple. Afflalo was given a two-year $25 million paycheck while Temple agreed to a three-year $24 million deal. With those contracts, it’s hard to fathom that the two were brought in just to play second and third fiddle to McLemore.

Veteran small forward Rudy Gay could also be on his way out of Sacramento. There were reports claiming that the 29-year-old Baltimore native could be dealt to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for combo guard Monta Ellis.

Since the Twolves just signed Cole Aldridge as thier backup center trading a center to them is unlikely. However we could swap Gay for Rubio (salaries work) or do a 3 team trade with another team involved like the pacers or bulls sending perhaps Taj Gibson to the wolves and Gay to the bulls for Rubio. I would be willing to part with Skal to get rubio. I also am a fan of the idea of trading DMC for Love. A DMC for love trade would also give us at least 1 or 2 future first round picks as well as a franchise player for the next 4 years.

Rubio is under a good contract for 3 more years for his age 26, 27 and 28 year old prime years. There is no rush for the Wolves to trade him. They have no experience at all at PG. Jones and Dunn are both essentially rookies with only 37 games and no career starts combined. Gay could leave Minnesota in a year since his deal is up after the season. I could see the Wolves trade a guy like Shabazz Muhammad for Gay or McLemore.

I think a trade for rubio might br more realistic at the trade deadline, after dunn has some exp manning the point.
