NBA Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers Could Trade Kevin Love for Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon
The Cleveland Cavaliers might consider trading Kevin Love this summer, especially if they lose to the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals. If the Cavaliers decide to move on from Love, the Orlando Magic are considered as one of his most likely destinations.Advertisement
The Magic could be a trade partner for the Cavaliers this summer, NBA insider Tom Ziller of Hoops Rumors reported. The Magic has a young core that will benefit from a veteran superstar like Love, but they could be forced to give up costly assets to acquire the three-time NBA All-Star.
Love has been struggling to adjust to his role in Cleveland — as the third option behind LeBron James and Kyrie Irving — but he remains to be a strong trade piece for the Cavaliers. According to the report, the Cavaliers could agree to move Love to Orlando for a trade package involving Aaron Gordon or Victor Oladipo.
“Orlando has plenty of young pieces and a need for offense,” Filler noted. “Aaron Gordon would be a dream target for Cleveland. Victor Oladipo would be magical on the Cavaliers.”
Gordon, the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, had a relatively solid sophomore season, as he averaged 9.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in 78 games. On the other hand, Oladipo, the second overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, posted 16.0 points to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
Love tallied 16.0 points and 9.9 rebounds during the regular season, and had solid performances in the first three rounds of the 2016 NBA Playoffs. However, in the first five games of the 2016 NBA Finals, the 27-year-old is averaging just 7.0 points and 4.8 rebounds, prompting speculation Cleveland will eventually move him this summer.
Love, who signed a five-year deal worth $113.2 million this summer, is aware of the recent NBA rumors about him, ESPN reported. However, the former UCLA standout is not too worried and played down speculation about his relationship with his teammates, including James and Irving.
“It’s an easy storyline, and people are going to run with it, and that’s always going to be how it is,” Love said of the trade rumors. “But if you ask anybody on that team, including myself, this is the closest unit, closest group I’ve ever been around.”
