NBA Trade Rumors: The Boston Celtics are keen to deal their No. 3 overall draft pick to Philadelphia 76ers for either Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel, according to sources close to the organization.

Boston had tried to acquire Okafor, the No. 3 pick in last year’s draft, prior to the February 18 trade deadline. Though the teams couldn’t work out a deal, they are looking to come to an agreement this offseason.

The Sixers, according to sources, are keen to draft either Kevin Dunn from Providence or Jamaal Murray from Kentucky to fill their guard rotation. With a surplus of big men in their ranks, Philadelphia is desperate for a young guard.

NBA Trade Rumors: Kevin Dunn for Jahlil Okafor?

Last week, CSN New England’s Tim Welsh revealed that Sixers would be willing to sacrifice Okafor for Dunn. “It’s well known that they love Kris Dunn. They need a great guard. Kris Dunn is going to be that. Maybe a Dwyane Wade, maybe a John Wall. Maybe not that good but I think he’s going to be an All-Star guard, especially if he learns how to shoot. They have a plethora of bigs. They can get Simmons at No. 1 and send Okafor to Boston for No. 3 and take Dunn.”

Bill Simmons, popular sports analyst and HBO host, also reckoned that Sixers would look to move Okafor in the near future. “I think the guy they’re going to trade for is Okafor. I think that almost happened in February. If you think about it, it makes a ton of sense for Philly. They spent all of these high lottery picks on big guys. Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid, and last year Okafor, and meanwhile the league has gone small,” Simmons told radio show Toucher & Rich.

Sixers need a young guard. Celtics need a dominant post presence. Expect the teams to come to terms on this trade. It’s a win-win situation. The NBA Draft is June 23.
