What's This?

Boston Celtics have a bunch of draft picks and tradeable assets, perhaps more so than any other team. Celtics GM Danny Ainge has three players on his radar: Danilo Gallinari, Jeff Teague and Al Horford, according to the latest NBA Trade Rumors.

Earlier this week, Yahoo Sports scoop master Adrian Wojnarowski revealed on his podcast that the Atlanta Hawks were looking “to push the reset button.” The Hawks, who finished with the top seed in the Eastern Conference last season, are struggling to hold onto the fifth seed this year.

CSNNE’s Chris Mannix has provided a similar report. “I’ve heard that Boston’s inquired about several players with Atlanta, Teague and Al Horford. It would be a gamble going after Al Horford because Al Horford is in the last year of his deal and he’s going to command a salary north of $20 million next year. But as we know and as I just said, Danny Ainge is a gambling GM. He could make a move like that too.”

On paper, it doesn’t make any sense for Celtics to pursue Teague. They already have Isaiah Thomas, who has been voted into the All-Star game, and sophomore Marcus Smart in the ranks.

Amir Johnson is untradeable…

However, trading for Horford makes a little more sense since they have a ton of centers and power forwards to offer: David Lee, Kelly Olynyk, Jared Sullinger and Tyler Zeller, just to name a few. Hawks will end up benefit by securing a host of young talent for Horford – who is expected to bail in free agency. It can be noted that Celtics are high on Amir Johnson and are expected to keep him.

High on Gallinari….

Another name that is doing the rounds is Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari. According to Sportando, and later reported by ESPN, Ainge is willing to go the distance to land Gallinari. “Celtics GM Danny Ainge is high on Gallinari, he loves his shooting abilities and his leadership skills, but the Nuggets’ asking price is pretty high. Denver is looking for at least a couple of future first-rounders to let Gallinari leave,” wrote Sportando.

The Celtics have no shortage of draft picks. In the forthcoming NBA Draft, Boston will have three round picks and a whopping five second round picks to choose from. In other words, the Celtics can draft eight rookies at one go around.
