Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks are working on a three-team deal that would send Carmelo Anthony to Cleveland, Kevin Love to Boston and a host of draft picks to New York, according to latest NBA Trade Rumors.

NY Daily News reported the potential trade Friday. “There were very preliminary discussions about expanding the deal to include Knicks and Anthony, who would have to waive his no-trade clause in order to facilitate a deal to the Cavs,” wrote Frank Isola.

Carmelo-LeBron pairing…

If Anthony would ever consider waiving his no-trade clause, it would be to pair up with good friend LeBron James and pursue a championship. Celtics have been linked with Love for years and are stacked with assets and draft picks to offer Knicks, who would benefit from getting Anthony’s contract off the books.

Cavs will have enough cap room to accommodate the last three years of Anthony’s five-year, $124 million contract. They have roughly $14 million in trade exception after offloading Brendon Heywood and Mike Miller over the summer. They would simply have to trade Timofey Mozgov to Knicks to bring Carmelo to Cleveland.

Porzingis’ team soon…

The Knicks, after losing 10 of their last 11 games, are looking to press the reset button and hand the reigns of the franchise to Latvian prodigy Kristaps Porzingis. By acquiring some first-round picks, they can surround Porzingis with young talent. They won’t draft in 2016 after trading the pick to Toronto Raptors in 2013.

Anthony’s persisting injuries are also becoming a problem for the Knicks. However, Anthony would get to play with a lot less pressure in an already established Cavaliers team.
