NBA Trade Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Preventing Knicks From Moving Him
Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks superstar, wishes to have his jersey retired in his hometown franchise. According to latest NBA trade rumors, the forward has been botching a potential trade to either Miami Heat or Chicago Bulls.Advertisement
Anthony, with four years left on his $124 million contract, had particularly demanded a no-trade provision when he signed an extension with the team last season. Insiders believe Anthony could be persuaded to move to a title contender if the Knicks don’t reach an elite level over the next few seasons.
Knicks still have enough cap room to pursue Kevin Durant in free agency. But Anthony’s hefty contract is surely curtailing hopes of targeting other marquee free agents.

Basketball Insiders writes that Anthony still controls his future. “Anthony has a large number of the off-the-court business ventures in New York, and given how much his side pushed for the no-trade clause, no one in the equation believes Anthony would consider a trade. That might change at some point in the future, but as things stand today Anthony is about as unobtainable as they come,” wrote the website.
However, time is not on his side. Anthony is on the wrong side of 30 and the Knicks aren’t contending for a championship anytime soon.
When the Knicks lost a flurry of games last season, there were reports saying Anthony was looking to leave the Big Apple for a championship contender. However, with the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis, the dynamic has drastically changed in New York.
Inquistr writes that Anthony is determined to stay put in New York. “Despite all the rumors, Carmelo Anthony appears genuine in his desire to stay with the New York Knicks and wait on Phil Jackson to surround him with an NBA Finals caliber team, and the 6’8″, 230-pound forward is not afraid to utilize his no-trade clause to ensure that he doesn’t end up on another team.”
Anthony has taken a backseat this season. Once hailed as a “ball hog” by Knicks fans, Anthony has become more of a facilitator and team player, averaging a career-low 21.3 points. However, there has been a steady rise in his assists (4.0) and rebounding (7.5) numbers.
