NBA Trade Rumors: Bulls Ready To Trade Noah, Gasol, Gibson
Chicago Bulls (22-15) have been far too inconsistent since Fred Hoiberg took over as coach. Under Tom Thibodeau, they were the best defensive unit in the league. Under Hoiberg, they are still searching for an identity. Stay tuned for NBA Trade Rumors.Advertisement
According to NBC Sports, the struggling Bulls have made Taj Gibson, Joakim Noah and Pau Gasol available in trade talks. While Gibson has been mentioned in trade rumors for a very long time, Noah and Gasol have suffered a major dip in form this season. Until last season, Noah and Gasol formed a potent front-court duo which steered Bulls to the No 3 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Bleacher Report wrote that Bulls are desperate to re-boot their season by sending the veteran trio elsewhere. “League sources say the Chicago Bulls have been checking on interest in one of their three bigs on the front line: Taj Gibson, Joakim Noah, and even at one point Pau Gasol. They are looking to get a young talent back, doesn’t matter whether it’s a defensive wing or a genuine stretch four. All of this is being motivated or prompted by the emergence of rookie big man Bobby Portis, who is demonstrating he is ready to take on a role now.”
A few years ago, Noah was No 3 in the MVP voting and was viewed as the best rim protector in the league. While Gasol’s career has been going downhill since 2011, Gibson hasn’t been given adequate playing time to prove his defensive mantle.
Gasol and Noah become free agents over the summer. Since Chicago owns the Bird Rights for the big duo, a team that trades for them will have the opportunity to re-sign them over the summer. As far as Gibson is concerned, he’s under contract for a reasonable $8.9 million next season, and could bring valuable leadership and rim protection to a contender.
With Derrick Rose also expected to be traded by the deadline, the Chicago Bulls roster could be a completely fresh one come playoff time.
