NBA Trade Rumors: Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov is desperate to instill a winning culture. By hitting the reset button, the Nets (10-28) have reportedly made the entire roster, including Brook Lopez, available in trade talks.
With the February 18 deadline fast approaching, the Nets aren’t going to hesitate to make major changes. “We need a fresh look. We should be able to take courage to turn down the opportunities, which maybe don’t fit to our strategy. Maybe this is the second lesson from the last six years,” Prokhorov said Monday after firing head coach Lionel Hollins.
Prokhorov, who flew from Russia to Brooklyn on Monday, is desperate to ring in the changes. A report on Bleacher Report highlights the players, if any, should be considered as long-term projects. The question is: which player is not headed out?
Brook Lopez to Boston Celtics?
A few days ago, several rumors surfaced about Brook Lopez being traded to Boston Celtics. Remember, Brooklyn owes its first-round draft pick to Boston. Therefore, tanking is not an option for the Nets. If the Nets do trade Lopez, they would increase Boston’s chance of landing Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram in June. But what would Nets gain from it?
Lopez had the opportunity to leave Brooklyn during the off-season. Instead, he signed a three-year, $60 million deal to stay with the only team he’s ever played for. The 27-year-old doesn’t regret the decision. “No, no, no. I’m happy to be here,” the superstar center said last Thursday. “Time and time again I’ve said I wanted to see something built here, I see a special opportunity, a great situation to be in,” added Lopez.
Prokhorov, who became full owner of the team in December, said he won’t stop making changes until the Nets win a championship. “Frankly speaking, I deserve a championship now much more than six years ago,” said the Russian. “I think we have been really bold, and we did our best in order to reach a championship. And I still believe with some luck our results might have been more promising. But I’ll do my best to make us a championship team. … I’m very committed to the championship, and I’m all-in.”
