The Los Angeles Clippers are expected to chase Kevin Durant in free agency, and won’t mind giving up Blake Griffin to secure the Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star. Thunder is going to resist the deal, unless Durant wants to leave their team.
Griffin is an Oklahoma native. This gives Thunder a chance to acquire the All-Star. The Clippers would finish this season with Griffin, despite trade calls for him. But OKC is reluctant to a sign-and-trade deal for Kevin Durant, unless the All-Star specifically reveals he wants to leave Thunder, according to Real GM.
The reason this deal should materialize is that it could prevent Durant from joining the Golden State Warriors. As the salary bar increases in the coming season, to match Durant’s astronomical price, the Clippers will have to sacrifice another contract of their roster, reports SB Nation.
Since OKC already has a crowded front-court, the likely guy to be traded along with Griffin is C.J. Wilcox. But Thunder isn’t ready to match maths for Kevin Durant as long he doesn’t want to leave desperately.
