What's This?

The Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies have agreed upon trading Mario Chalmers. Chalmers had been with Heat since the 2008 season. Chalmers became the center of trade rumors this off-season as Miami Heat were keen on saving luxury tax.

Forward James Ennis was also traded off to Memphis. Heat acquired point guard Beno Udrih and forward Jarnell Stokes.

Initially, there was delay in the trade as Heat wanted to involve a third party to absorb Udrih and Stokes’ salaries. The teams went ahead with a direct deal on Tuesday night.

“This is a tough day for myself and the organization in trading Mario Chalmers and James Ennis,” Pat Riley, president of Miami Heat, said in a statement on Tuesday after the trade was ratified.

“Mario was a part of two championships with us, and Ennis is a solid young player, but it is part of the business, and it was a move necessary to make because of our crowded back-court. We feel that it is in the best interest of Mario, and we want him to be successful and be a part of a good team. We wish them nothing but the best.”

The Grizzlies, on the other hand, have made a 3-5 start and succumbed to a crushing 30-point defeat against Cleveland Cavaliers, which were sincerely eyeing to add more experience in their roster.

Chalmers departed from Miami after a long stint. He expressed his feelings via Twitter.
