NBA Trade News: Lakers Sign Undrafted Forward Jonathan Holmes
Forward Jonathan Holmes of Texas has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to sources.
Holmes went undrafted despite being rated by Draft Express as the 24th overall prospect going into the 2015 NBA Draft.
Lakers on Saturday announced the signing of the undrafted forward; the contract of Holmes includes a significant partial guarantee.
Jonathan Holmes, Profile and Stats
6-foot-8 forward Holmes joined Boston Celtics for playing the NBA summer league in Las Vegas. He joined the Utah Jazz last month, averaging 10 points and five rebounds in eight games.
Holmes shot 48.1 field-goal percentage and 46.4 percent clip from three-point range.
During his stint of four seasons at the University of Texas, the forward averaged 9.2 points and 5.9 rebounds. He registered his best season at the junior level, averaging 12.8 points per game, while shooting 50% from the field and grabbing 7.2 rebounds a game.
Holmes could be considered a versatile forward for his impressive shooting from the 3-point range.
Holmes, Future At Lakers
The Lakers have signed Tarik Black and Jabari Brown in non-guaranteed contracts. Holmes will be competing with these two for the 15th place of the franchise’s roster.
Holmes risked joining a team with a crowded front-court. Julius Randle, Brandon Bass, Roy Hibbert, Ryan Kelly, Robert Upshaw, and Larry Nance Jr already feature in the Lakers forward line.
