NBA Trade News: 7-Footer Jaleel Roberts Agrees To Sign Non-guaranteed Deal With Wizards
Jaleel Roberts has agreed to sign with the Washington Wizards on a non-guaranteed deal, according to league sources.
7-footer Roberts is one of those who participated in the summer league sparingly for the Wizards in Las Vegas after going undrafted out of UNC Asheville.
The Wizards has invited Jaleel Roberts for their training camp. Roberts featured for Washington in the Las Vegas Summer League, but only for 7 minutes in three games.
Jarrid Famous and Shawn Jones were preferred ahead of the 7-footer. Famous recently signed a deal with the Dallas Mavericks, and Shawn Jones is on his way for a stint in Europe. That opened up a space for Roberts in Wizards training camp.
Roberts future at Wizards
The Wizards have already signed a full quota of 15 men in guaranteed contracts for the coming season. So there is very little opportunity for Roberts to make it to the final roster of the team. Including Roberts in the roster, the Wizards require to waive a player, which seems unlikely at the moment.
But Roberts will surely add more depth in Wizards’ training camp, providing the team management more time to check the variety he could offer.
Moreover, the Wizards may have plans for him in the D-League. If the 7-footer proves his worth, Washington’s investment on him would payoff.
