NBA Rumors: Pau Gasol to Portland Trail Blazers, Rajon Rondo to Chicago Bulls
NBA free agency continues to be wild as ever with a lot of players receiving ridiculously lucrative deals. Two high profile players are expected to be getting a lot of those too in Pau Gasol and Rajon Rondo.Advertisement
Pau Gasol to Portland Trail Blazers?
Pau Gasol is at the twilight of his career and he wants to make those remaining years count. He is a proven winner seeing he has a couple of NBA rings to show when he was still with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Spaniard had a decent stint with the Chicago Bulls in the past two seasons. However, knowing that the Bulls are in a kind of rebuilding stage, Gasol decided to move one and expressed interest to play for a team that has a chance at another NBA title.
Could that team be the Portland Trail Blazers?
The Blazers made some progress last season thanks to their deadly backcourt duo, Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum. Missing was that frontline contribution which Gasol can perfectly bring according to Fansided.com.
Seeing how competitive the Western Conference is, Gasol at least has a shot to try and help the Blazers improve on their previous finish.
The Blazers fell to the Warriors in the 2016 NBA Western conference semifinals but all that could change next season if the opportunity arises once more.
Aside from winning, there is the money factor. At 35, Gasol wants the proper pay due to him and this could be the obstacle the Blazers have to address. They verbally agreed with Evan Turner for $70 million so the crunched numbers could be a concern.
Will Rajon Rondo Consider Chicago?
Speaking of guards, Rajon Rondo is available as well. After showcasing one of his better years with the Sacramento Kings last season, the veteran guard reportedly drew the Chicago Bulls’ attention, Real GM reported.
Rondo could technically fill in the void left by Derrick Rose, who is now with the New York Knicks. But the question is on whether he would be amenable to joining a team that is rebuilding?
By doing so, it would mean that Rondo will have to settle for money over NBA success. Seeing that he is not getting younger himself, that angle may not make Chicago a fit for Rondo.
Aside from the Bulls, the New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly another team interested in the veteran guard.
New Orleans among the teams expressing interest in Rajon Rondo, league sources told @TheVertical. Rondo led the NBA in assists last season.
