NBA Rumors: Iman Shumpert Suspended For How Many Games?
Iman Shumpert, the Cleveland Cavaliers guard, was on Friday night arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana, according to several reports.Advertisement
The defensive specialist was driving along a highway in Georgia when he was pulled over for a lane violation. The exact location is being reported as Fayette County outside of Atlanta, where Shumpert resides in the offseason.
According to Fox 8 Cleveland, per a report from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the officer who pulled up Shumpert smelt marijuana in the car and noticed that the Cavs player’s eyes were bloodshot.
The report noted that when asked if he had smoked weed, Shumpert said: “I just left my homegirl’s house.”
Several reports have confirmed that Shumpert, in fact, failed a sobriety test and kept reiterating that he just finished working out. Shumpert had to submit a blood test to which he agreed.

Iman Shumpert to be suspended?
The police report, which read the following, noted that Shumpert was taken to Fayette County Jail before his father received the car.
“Mr. Shumpert advised that he did not want to take the test if he had to go to the hospital. I informed him that he was not responsible for paying for the blood test.
“He advised that he did not want to because people would recognize him and it would cause a scene. He maintained that he was now going to refuse the test,” read the report.
The report further noted that a jar of marijuana and a bag of cigars were found in Shumpert’s car, which was a rental.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, who claim to be in constant touch with Shumpert, released the following statement:
“The Cavaliers have discussed the situation with Iman and will monitor the progression of the pending case. A court date has not been set at this point, and neither Iman or the team will have any additional comments while the matter progresses through the legal process.”
Shumpert, who made a memorable 4-point play during Game 7 of the NBA finals, was one of the key perimeter defenders as the Cleveland Cavaliers ended a 50+ years drought of a championship in June.
The Cavs begin their training camp on September 26. Iman Shumpert faces up to a two-game suspension from the NBA, according to ESPN.
