The rumors linking Kevin Love to a move to the Boston Celtics will not end. This time, recent NBA rumors suggest the Cleveland Cavaliers could eventually trade the All-Star forward to their Eastern Conference rival.
The Celtics have already bolstered their roster this summer after signing former All-Star Al Horford and drafting Jaylen Brown with their third pick. But as it stands, the Celtics are not done yet.
Celtics Forming Big Three Of Love, Horford, Isaiah Thomas
The Celtics are interested in Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin, Sporting News reported. But before the Griffin-to-Boston speculation surfaced, it is not a secret that they are eyeing Love even before he moved to Cleveland in 2014.
In the event the Cavaliers pull the trigger on a trade involving Love, the Celtics could be their trade partner. According to Aaron Ferguson of King James Gospel, the Celtics have pieces that could convince the Cavaliers to part ways with the All-Star power forward.
“Boston has a couple of players that the Cavs could have interest in,” Ferguson noted. “Small forward Jae Crowder is a solid two-way player that could help improve Cleveland on the defensive end as an upgrade over Love, and he can space the floor.”
Crowder, who averaged 14.2 points and 5.1 rebounds last season, could start at the three spot. This means LeBron James could play as their starting power forward, which could give matchup problems to most teams.
Aside from Crowder, the report also indicated that the Cavaliers could also ask for Marcus Smart. Smart could be an attractive trade piece for the Cavaliers, especially if J.R. Smith moves elsewhere.
Smith has yet to get a new deal and is still remaining form on his contract demands. If Smith leaves, Smart could play a big role in Cleveland. The 22-year-old averaged 9.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in his sophomore year last season.
Acquiring Love could be a costly move for the Celtics if they give up Crowder and Smart. But the deal is not a long shot, considering Celtics’ interest in Love since he was still with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
