NBA Rumors: Chicago Bulls Signing Ben McLemore To Replace Dwyane Wade Next Summer?
The Chicago Bulls could target Ben McLemore next summer. The Sacramento Kings shooting guard is a young and athletic alternative to Dwyane Wade.Advertisement
What many fail to realize, amid the hoopla surrounding Wade’s transfer, is that the three-time NBA champion only signed up for one guaranteed year with his hometown team. He can opt out of his contract next summer and become an unrestricted free agent.
The idea of Wade leaving Chicago after just one year is highly suspect. All indications point towards him finishing out his career in the Windy City. But if there’s anything basketball pundits learned from this offseason, it’s that nothing is truly set in the NBA.
Michael Kanoy of Pippen Ain’t Easy noted that McLemore could be a better fit with the Bulls. If the Wade experiment doesn’t pan out, the team should look to sign the 23-year-old Missouri native next free agency.
McLemore has fresher legs than Wade. He works best as a slasher and fast break finisher. He would form a dynamic wing combo with Bulls superstar Jimmy Butler.
The Bulls expressed interest in McLemore earlier this year. His trade stock went down when he suffered a sprained right wrist just three games before the All-Star break. Before the injury, McLemore averaged a career-high 45.1 percent from the field and 37.2 percent from beyond the arc, as per Bleacher Report.
“His strong slashing game in the place of Wade is a good, cheap option in the free agency pool next year,” said Kanoy. “The Bulls already like McLemore and would have completed a trade for Pau Gasol, if not for the Kings hedging on losing the top-10 protection on their lottery pick.”
