NBA Rumors: Celtics To Land All-Star For No. 3 Pick?
The Boston Celtics are aggressively shopping their No.3 draft pick and are most likely to persuade a team to give up an all-star caliber player for the lottery pick and other assets, according to a source close to the organization.Advertisement
CSN’s Celtics Insider A. Sherrod Blakely has revealed that Boston GM Danny Ainge is leaving no stone unturned to try and secure an impact player ahead of next season. “(I’m) hearing that No. 3 pick overall is the one that they are really shopping,” Blakely wrote Sunday.
Celtics going all-out
“(They’re) trying to be as aggressive as possible in trying to move that pick, because they want to get a difference-making, impact player right now. And they believe using that No. 3 pick, and maybe some other players and/or picks, might be the best way to (make) that happen.”
Going by several mock drafts, the likes of Buddy Hield, Dragan Bender and Jamaal Murray are in contention for the No. 3 pick. Clearly, the Celtics prefer to add veteran talent instead of piling on more youth to an already inexperienced roster.
“The guys that they (Celtics) want are the guys that everybody wants. We’re talking about (Kevin) Durant, we’re talking about Jimmy Butler, those type of players. And those guys are going to be at the top of their wish list until those guys say, ‘We don’t want to come to Boston,’” added Blakely.
Botched Jimmy Butler trade…
Prior to February’s trade deadline, Boston made a run at Butler by offering two 2016 first round picks (which fell to No. 3 and No. 16 in the draft lottery) and a few reserve players, according to Boston Herald. The Bulls refused to further discussions without Jae Crowder or Avery Bradley in the mix. With several months passed, it seems like Boston would be willing to sacrifice either Crowder or Bradley for Butler.
Besides Butler, DeMarcus Cousins and Paul George are two other all-stars that Boston would be willing to trade considerable assets for. It’s a long shot but Celtics could get their new star this summer.
