What's This?

NBA Rumors: The Boston Celtics have been linked with Kevin Love since the all-star forward’s days in Minnesota. GM Danny Ainge had another unsuccessful crack at it this past trade deadline.

With chemistry issues plaguing the Cleveland Cavaliers, there is strong belief within the league that Love would be available for trade talks this summer.

The only thing keeping Love in Cleveland is if the Cavs miraculously beat the San Antonio Spurs or Golden State Warriors for the NBA title. And while certain other teams, possibly Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers, could take a crack at Love, Boston is likely ruled out as a future destination for the former UCLA standout.

Moving on from Love…

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Zach Lowe revealed the most recent trade negotiations between Cavaliers and Celtics.

“Cleveland and Boston had trade talks for Love at the deadline, though they died with Boston offering a low-ball package the Cavs wouldn’t consider, according to several league sources. Even if Boston’s interest has faded, someone will call Cleveland about Love around the draft,” wrote Lowe, suggesting that Boston was moving on from their former prized trade target.

Lowe also acknowledged that Love’s fate depends on Cleveland’s performance in the postseason. “If they lose again, I’d bet big on Love being elsewhere – a split that might end up the best thing for everyone.”

NBA Rumors: Bulls Star Jimmy Butler On The Trading Block, Celtics Gearing Up

Top Targets: Cousins and Butler

With enough cap space to go around, the Celtics would rather go all-out to try and acquire DeMarcus Cousins and/or Jimmy Butler – two players with discernible differences with their respective coaches. For those two stars, Celtics could be willing to give up pretty much all their draft picks and anyone on the roster with the exception of all-star point guard Isiah Thomas.

Will Ainge pull a rabbit out of the hat this offseason? The sixth-seeded Celtics (43-32) are perhaps one superstar away from contending for the Eastern Conference title. While there is every possibility that they land a superstar free agent this summer, they aren’t averse to acquiring stars via trades.
