NBA News: Detroit Pistons Ride On Andre Drummond’s Brilliance To Beat Atlanta Hawks In Opener
Andre Drummond was fascinating. The Atlanta Hawks had no answer to his on-court heroics on Tuesday. Drummond had 18 points and 19 rebounds to steer Detroit Pistons to win the season opener against the Hawks.Advertisement
Marcus Morris, the controversial man in the Pistons’ roster, came out with flying colors to notch up 18 points and 10 rebounds to display his utility in the first game only after being traded by the Phoenix Suns this summer. But Caldwell-Pope top-scored for the winners by netting four three-pointers to return with 21 points. Pistons started their 2015-16 campaign with 106-94 win over the Hawks.
The scoreline appears to be close, but the Pistons dominated throughout the game. They entered the fourth quarter leading 82-66, a testament of their convincing effort.
Head coach Stan Van Gundy‘s men won the game where they shot only 38.5 percent.
“We showed our toughness,” said the hero of the game, Pistons center Andre Drummond. “We showed our toughness, we showed the chemistry.
“We’ve been working on it all summer, been in the gym since July and doing hard work individually and doing team things. We took the liberty of trying to build a bond with each other without the coaches there and that really showed on the court today.”
