During Monday night’s game, Cousins was in foul trouble and was repeatedly cautioned by the referees. After sitting out for the most of the time during first quarter, Cousins lost his cool while he was pulled up for a fifth foul in the third quarter.
Monty McCutchen and Mitchell Ervin then called Cousins for two successive technical errors and he was ejected. An angry Cousins was escorted off the court after being restrained by his teammates. The Warriors registered a 15-0 run to pull off a 122-103 win after the technicals.
“He said he understands what he did, but he didn’t do anything wrong in my opinion”, Divac said after speaking to Cousins once the game was over, according to reports. Cousins didn’t appear in the press conference.
Kings headcoach George Karl also stood by his star.
“It just seemed to me there were cute, soft fouls called on DeMarcus and he got his fifth and he lost his cool,” pointed out Karl.
Whether the referral decisions were merited or not is debatable, but according to stats, Cousins has been ejected 10 times, and has issued six suspensions, five by the league and one by his team.
The Kings play the 76ers, who are on a two game winning streak on Wednesday.
