NBA 2K17 continues to gain steam with the game set to come out on Sept. 20 though players who want to check out the game in advance can do so if they pre-order.
Already known is that NBA 2K17 will have Paul George as the cover athlete with a special Legend Edition featuring retired Los Angeles Laker star Kobe Bryant. International teams, the official soundtrack and the modifications made to the game are already out in the open so it may be time to look into the player ratings of select stars.
2K community manager Ronnie has been providing details via his Twitter account, including player ratings. Among the players whose ratings have already been revealed include D’Angelo Russell, Joel Embiid, Karl-Anthony Towns and Ben Simmons.
High rating for Towns, Russell shortchanged?
Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves got a big boost with a high 88 rating though such hardly comes as a surprise. He is coming off a big rookie season so the big leap from a previous 78 rating is a no-brainer.
Incoming rookie Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers got a 79 rating, which shouldn’t be that bad though some other players may have frowned a bit on what they got.
That includes D’Angelo Russell, the Los Angeles Lakers sophomore. He got 77 last season so the meager 2 point bump is somehow disappointing.

But if the 79 rating of Russell is hardly something to talk about, the fact that other players got lower could further draw a howl. Denzel Valentine got a 73, while Spencer Dinwiddie ended up with just a 69. Dinwiddie saw a dip in his ranking having 70 on NBA 2K16.
Does Embiid deserve his rating?
For someone who has yet to play an NBA game, seeing Joel Embiid getting a 77 rating is somehow off. There is a chance he could finally play for the Sixers this coming season but the basis for his rank is questionable.
