More and more talks about Wolverine 3 are circulating due to the impending release of X-Men: Apocalypse this May. Aside from being Hugh Jackman’s last stint at playing the three-clawed mutant, fans are speculating about which characters will appear in the movie.
According to Screen Rant, it is confirmed that Wolverine 3 will be set in a future timeline, with Fox rumored to adapt the Old Man Logan storyline. It is also confirmed that Wolverine will be joined by Professor X, with Patrick Stewart reprising the role.
Although it is definitely saddening that Old Man Jackman will be giving up the claws, this will also serve as an opportunity to introduce more characters from the X-Men comic books to the big screen. One of these is mutant X-23.
Comicbook.com reported a casting call for “Juarez,” the still unnamed Wolverine 3 moniker, looking for stand-ins and body doubles. The description was specified to Caucasian, Hispanic and Asian-looking females above the age of 21, dark brown hair, height 4’-4’11”, size 0-4. The call was for anyone who fit the description living in the New Orleans area.
The descriptions were quite vague and can be applied to a number of female characters from the X-Men franchise. There are, however, many who suggest that the details fit the description of mutant X-23, also known as Laura Kinney.
The character was first introduced in X-Men: Evolution animated series and was later included in the comic books. She is the result of successfully repeating the weapon X program and has all the powers of Wolverine. Their only difference is that X-23 has two claws on each hand instead of Wolverine’s three; she also has a single blade on each foot.
If it really is mutant X-23, we will find out eventually, as more and more details of Wolverine 3 are released. Wolverine 3 is scheduled for release on March 3, 2017.
