There was a lot of stress caused by the unplanned pregnancy. Lori Cichewicz’s doctor told her that if she ever get pregnant, she would be conceiving a child with Down syndrome.
According to Fox News, Cichewicz visited her doctor in 2008 in order get tubal ligation done. This procedure is known as “having your tubes tied.” During the visit, Cichewicz was informed by her doctor that her tubes were “blocked” and she had no chance of getting pregnant. The doctor said there was no need for birth control, as she was not capable to reproduce.
Surprisingly enough, after three years, she gave birth to her daughter, Reagan, who has Down syndrome.
According to the University of Missouri School of Law, a wrongful conception is a medical malpractice claim that comes up due to the “negligent performance of a sterilization procedure.” WXYZ reported that the moment she discovered she was pregnant, there was no question of whether she would be reproducing a child with special needs.
“She’s full of life, loving, kind, sweet, everything you could ever imagine,” Cichewicz said while talking to reporters.
Cichewicz said that the problem is that she never wanted to be pregnant. And now, she is seeking compensation for the emotional distress that was caused by the unwarranted pregnancy.
“I’m older, I don’t know, will I see her graduate college? Will I see her go to college? Will I see her get married? Will I see her graduate high school? All this is going through my mind,” Cichewicz said.
