Xiaomi has started to roll out the MIUI 8 global beta ROM which means that folks who own devices such as the Redmi Note, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note Prime and Mi Max 32 GB should be receiving it by now.
New features for MIUI 8
Considered one of the more popular Android skins, the MIUI 8 ROM is expected to bring in a lot of features for Xiaomi owners. The list includes a cleaner and improved design and a redesigned volume control center and notification panel.
New colors allows Xiaomi owners to custommize their devices, while a new Gallery app should offer users the choice to get programs of their choice. “Dual Apps” will be among the new things to see on the MIUI 8, allowing owners to set up two different accounts containing specific apps per Android Headlines.
Notes on downloading MIUI 8
For Xiaomi owners notified of the MIUI 8’s availability, it would be best to take note of the following. Users with the MIUI Global Developer ROM can easily download the update while the ones on Alpha ROM will have to do something extra.
Users who have the Alpha ROM will have to flash the Developer ROM and then install the OTA update. For the ones who have stable ROMS, all you have to do is unlock the booloader and manually flash the ROM as detailed on GSM Arena.
Forward to MIUI 9
With the MIUI 8 slowly gaining ground, Xiaomi owners are now setting their sights on the MIUI 9. Images have already started to crop up over at Weibo and now folks are hoping to get more improvements once the next ROM does come out.
Among the features Xiaomi users are hoping for include the integration of a virtual assistant, a ‘raise to wake’ feature and accessing the phone camera without unlocking the device. The features do call to mind the ones carried by Apple so Xiaomi developers are likely taking note.
