The entire world went abuzz when Harvey, host of Miss Universe 2015, announced the wrong winner—Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez. Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was later announced as the true winner after minutes of awkwardness.
No To Steve Harvey
On Thursday, Duterte expressed his disapproval of having Harvey as host of the pageant, which will be held for the third time in the Philippines since its inception.
The tough-talking president has reportedly said that he doesn’t want Harvey as host of Miss Universe 2016 after erroneously announcing the wrong winner. But Wanda Teo, Philippine Tourism chief, said that she is yet to talk to pageant organizers to solve the issue, since Harvey has signed a five-year hosting contract with Miss Universe, CNN Philippines reported.
Five-Year Hosting Contract
“He cannot host. I am going to talk to the Miss Universe that he cannot host so that is my problem. I don’t want him to be the host of the Miss Universe,” Teo quoted Duterte as saying.
Teo, however, said that it’s highly likely Harvey will host the pageant on January 2017, considering the newly-signed contract. But one of the possible solutions Teo would suggest is to have a Filipina host assisting Harvey with hosting responsibilities.
According to a report from ET, Harvey signed the multi-year hosting contract with Miss Universe days before the airing of the iconic Miss Universe pageant where Harvey announced the wrong winner. The report added that Harvey shall receive the highest hosting paycheck ever in the history of the pageant.
