Miss America 2017 is Savvy Shields. The 21-year-old Miss Arkansas has won the title of Miss America 2017 pageant.


Shields also won a college scholarship amounting to $50,000 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Sunday. She was crowned by Miss America 2016 Georgia Betty Cantrell.

Savvy Shields strutted on stage wearing a black gown. She performed a jazz dance to “They Just Keep Moving the Line.”

Shields very wisely “gave a safe answer to a question about Hillary Clinton as posed to her by celebrity judge Gabby Douglas,” Yahoo reports. The 1st runner-up is Miss South Carolina, Rachel Wyatt, who earned a $25,000 scholarship.

Besides, the 2nd runner-up is Miss New York, Camille Sims, who sang jazz and won a $20,000 scholarship.

Miss America 2017 contest details

The Miss America pageant kicked off with a bevy of beauties at Atlantic City, New Jersey on Sunday night. It’s been a few years that the beauty pageant has returned to the city, after about a decade in Las Vegas.

In the Miss America pageant on Sunday, 14 out of the top 15 contestants were picked for the final round, Reuters reports. Star judges included Gabby Douglas, Laura Maurano, Cole Swindell, Sara Foster, Ciara, and former Miss America Sharlene Wells Hawkes.

Previously, 52 representatives from the 50 U.S. states were lined up for the finale of the beauty pageant. There were contestants from the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, Michigan, Washington D.C., Arkansas, Maryland, Ohio and Tennessee.

The contestants shined through grueling preliminary rounds including categories like talent, fitness, a personal interview, answers to an on-stage question and appearances in gowns and swimsuits.

The Miss America 2017 pageant was hosted by Chris Harrison and Sage Steele. The pageant was broadcast live on ABC.
