Michelle Obama Almost Chokes Up Unveiling White House Christmas Decorations One Last Time

First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off the official White House holiday season on Tuesday.

Announcing the start of the holiday season, Obama said that the theme for this year is the “gift of the holidays.”

“We’re going to be celebrating our country’s greatest gifts with special decorations celebrating our military family,” Obama said.

Michelle Obama: Holiday season ‘honoring America’s greatest heroes’

For example, in the book cellars, visitors will see a tree and a flag display with pictures of military families Obama said she and President Barack Obama have met in communities across the world.

The Christmas tree is adorned with ornaments “honoring America’s greatest heroes – the men and women who have given their lives for our country.”

The blue room features a 19-ft Christmas tree. According to Obama, “they had to take out the chandeliers and rearrange everything just to get the tree in the house.”

In the library, the First Lady said that the Obamas are honoring the gift of a great education. The official White House gingerbread house is in the state dining room. Everything on it is something “you can eat,” she said.

Michelle Obama to ‘welcome’ people into White House for holidays

Obama expressed gratitude to the volunteers who created the mesmerizing displays.

“We can’t wait to start welcoming people into the white house this holiday season,” she said.

“And to all the military families, those of you who are here today and all those around the world, I want to once again honor you for your service and your sacrifice and your love of this nation,” Obama said. “It’s a love that my family and I share with you. It has been such a complete pleasure to support you in this time.”
