Michael Phelps’ win on Sunday in the men’s 4×100 meter medley announced Boomer Phelps’ arrival at the 2016 Rio Olympics in grand fashion.
While his father was earning medals for his country, Boomer Robert Phelps stole the hearts of people across the country for the cute outfit he was wearing.
Boomer sat with his mother, Michael Phelp’s fiancee Nicole Johnson, watching his father achieve glory. The three month old boy could be seen in a patriotic outfit, including a stars and stripes baby carrier. He also wore a pair of noise cancelling headphones in colors of red, white and blue, as first spotted by Cosmopolitan.
The swimming sensation had previously announced the birth of his son in an Instagram post. Boomer was born on May 5, 2016, at 7:21 p.m.
Speaking with US Weekly about his son’s adorable outfits, Phelps said there would be more to come. “He’s going to have some cool outfits on, that’s for sure. You’ve got to check him out,” Phelps said. “I’ve gotten some photos of him — Boomer will be dressed to impress in the stands, that’s for sure.”
On Tuesday, Phelps bagged his 21st Olympic gold medal. His 20th medal came after he won the 200 meter butterfly event, which he has won three times. He finished the race in 1:53:36.
The contest saw Masato Sakai of Japan finishing with a silver medal and Tamas Kenderesi of Hungary – who won the semi finals, outracing Phelps by 16 hundredths of a second – coming in third.
South African swimmer Chad Le Clos, who had won the same event in the 2012 London Olympics beating Phelps by five hundredths of a second, had to contend with the fourth position.
