Justin Goldstein, a local television meteorologist, was arrested by Connecticut state police on child porn charges.
The 33-year-old meteorologist was arrested at his place of work, WTNH-TV in New Haven on Wednesday. According to police, he has been charged with first-degree possession of child pornography and promoting a minor in an obscene performance.
A police release said they started investigating the matter in June, when videos of suspected child pornography were downloaded from an account registered to the television meteorologist.
It was reported by NBC Connecticut that a search warrant was executed by investigators after they went to his home on Aspen Glen Drive in Hamden. The publication noted that police said they have confiscated multiple computer equipments and discovered files of suspected child porn at the scene.
Justin Goldstein was let go on a $200,000 surety bond and had been asked to appear on court in Meriden on July 26. However, there was no clarification given regarding whether he had an attorney.
After confirming his arrest, WTNH-TV released a statement in connection to the case.
“We are deeply concerned by the allegations,” General Manager of WTNH-TV, Mark Higgins, said, “Until the matter is resolved, Justin Goldstein is suspended from his duties at WTNH.”
In an interview with News 8, the television meteorologist talked about his hobbies, which include traveling, baseball, softball, football, cooking, boating, flying, and occasional trips to the casino.
On being a meteorologist, he said that since the age of three, he wanted to be one. The inspiration came when he went to the Staten Island beach with his father. “My dad took me to the beach of the town I grew up in (Staten Island) during Hurricane Gloria,” Goldstein said.
“The power of the weather and the ocean had me intrigued; and still does to this day!”
