A video showing a nearly decayed body of what appeared a ‘mermaid’ is currently doing the rounds online, fueling the millennia-old mystery of this mythical creature.
A certain Paul Jones posted on his Facebook account several pictures of what he believe a decaying body of a mermaid washed ashore in Great Yarmouth. The post has already been shared more than five thousand times as of this posting.
The body’s mid section appeared disfigured while its upper torso and its head resemble to that of a human. But what struck the netizens is its tail-like feature that matches the depiction of a mermaid’s tail.
“Today at Great Yarmouth we found what looks like a dead Mermaid washed up on the beach.” Jones posted alongside with the series of the gruesome images.
The Mermaid Mystery
The mystery surrounding mermaids has existed since the time of the Babylonians some 2,000 years ago. In fact, there have been several investigations launched to investigate the veracity of such claim, but all of those efforts proved futile.
One of those who investigated the mystery of mermaids is C.J.S. Thompson, a former curator at the Royal College of Surgeons of England who published a book titled “The Mystery and Lore of Monsters”, the Live Science wrote.
“Traditions concerning creatures half-human and half-fish in form have existed for thousands of years, and the Babylonian deity Era or Oannes, the Fish-god, is represented on seals and in sculpture, as being in this shape over 2,000 years B.C. He is usually depicted as having a bearded head with a crown and a body like a man, but from the waist downwards, he has the shape of a fish covered with scales and a tail,” C.J.S. Thompson wrote in his book.
