The midseason premiere of Grey’s Anatomy will see Meredith struggling after being attacked by a patient. This one is said to be the most brutal attack on the character so far.

Meredith has faced several hazards in previous season including drowning, a plane crash and a hospital shooting. Ellen Pompeo who plays Meredith said, “I’m super excited for the fans to see [episode] 1209,” adding, “It’s for sure the [best] thing I’ve ever done on the show.”

Meredith’s attack has a lasting impact on Amelia. On the other hand, Amelia is in a downward spiral as she relapsed in the winter finale. Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia, said, “The stress and isolation that led to that drink continue, and [Amelia’s] sense of shame and responsibility are definitely triggered with the events that unfold in the premiere episode.”

Denzel Washington will be directing some episodes. While talking about his inclusion, Pompeo said, “We’ve never had anybody of his caliber come and direct our show ever,” adding, “His charisma, he changes the energy in the room completely. Everybody is just at the top of their game. We don’t get a lot of actors of his caliber — there’s no actor of his caliber really; he’s in a league all of his own, for sure — who are going to come in and bring his energy to it.”

Jason George, who plays Dr. Ben Warren in the show, is also excited about working with Denzel Washington. He mentioned, “They threw this extra curve ball at us,” adding, “People freaked out. Twelve seasons of doing this show, and it was like their first day again.”

Martin Henderson is the new addition to the show. He will be playing Dr. Nathan Riggs in Grey’s Anatomy’s new season. “The thing that shocked me the most was how much people were actually enjoying their job,” he said.

The midseason premiere of Grey’s Anatomy will air Thursday 8 p.m. on ABC. Stay tuned to get more information.
