Melania Trump Plagiarized Michelle Obama’s Speech: See Videos, Photos To Compare
Melania Trump stepped on to the stage on Day 1 of the 2016 Republican National Convention to deliver what has been described as the highest profile speech of her life, praising her husband Donald Trump’s character and how he will “never, never let you down.” As it turned out, however, she plagiarized a big chunk of her speech from Michelle Obama’s speech back in 2008.Advertisement
While Melania Trump’s speech was well received by the Republican crowd, a journalist found a portion of her speech strikingly similar to Michelle Obama’s address of 2008. The similarity was first spotted by journalist Jarrett Hill, who compared a section of Melania’s speech wherein she talks about the values instilled in her by her parents to that Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention address.
The section from Melania’s speech in question is as follows:
“My parents impressed on me the values: that you work hard for what you want in life. That your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise. That you treat people with respect. They taught me to show the values and morals in my daily life. That is the lesson that I continue to pass along to our son.
“And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. [Cheering] Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
The one from Obama’s is as follows:
“And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.
“And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
The comparison was also reflected in a tweet by Yair Rosenberg, whose post can be viewed towards the bottom of this article.
Melania has been working on her address for the last five to six weeks. As reported by CNN, she stuck close to script delivering her remarks off a telepompter. Paul Manafort, the Trump campaign manager, said although Malania isn’t too fond of the campaign trail she was excited to deliver her speech.
