German Train Crash Leaves At Least 10 Dead
Two trains have collided in the German state of Bavaria, killing at least 10 and injuring a lot more.
The accident had occurred on a single-track route between Rosenheim and Holzkirchen at around 07:00 local time. Both trains were said to have been traveling at a speed of around 100 km/h (62 mph) when the crash occurred. According to a report from BBC, officials are assuming that neither train drivers had any visual contact with one other before the deadly impact. The trains reportedly did not engage its brakes before the crash. So far, two of three data recorders or “black boxes” have already been recovered from the crash site.
Following the crash, 54 people have been taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. Among them, eight are said to be in serious condition. Meanwhile, the dead include the drivers of both trains as well as two train guards. One person also remains missing.
North Korea Restarts Plutonium Reactor
Director National Intelligence James Clapper says it is more than likely that North Korea has already restarted its plutonium production reactor as Pyongyang looked to follow through with an earlier announcement regarding the advancement of its Yongbyon enrichment facility.
During an opening statement during a Worldwide Threat Assessment Hearing with the Senate Armed Services Committee, Clapper said that they also have reason to believe that North Korea has been operating the said reactor long enough to start recovering plutonium as early as in the coming weeks. At the same time, Clapper also warned that the country is determined to develop its long-range, nuclear-armed missile that can pose a “direct threat to the United States.”
