Markieff Morris, the Washington Wizards forward, was detained at Philadelphia International Airport Thursday for marijuana possession before being released, according to law enforcement officials.
CSN Philadelphia reported that “a suspicious item” triggered a thorough search of Morris’ checked-in baggage. Upon investigation, officials found “suspected marijuana” in the suitcase.
According to Tinicum Township police, investigation is underway. Morris was reportedly travelling with his mother and other family friends on an overseas trip.
CSN Philadelphia reported: “A secondary search of his (Morris’) bag revealed what law enforcement officials called “suspected marijuana.” Terminal A at Philadelphia International is overseen by Tinicum Township Police in Delaware County, not by the Philadelphia Police Department. Philadelphia airport security notified Tinicum Township Police. Morris was then taken to the Tinicum Township Police precinct for questioning. He was later released on his own recognizance.”
The Wizards released a statement in which they said “We spoke with Markieff earlier today and will continue to gather more details.”
Associated Press tried getting in touch with Morris’ lawyer but did not get a response.
Markieff Morris, a native of Philadelphia, was traded by Phoenix Suns to Wizards prior the February trade deadline.
