What's This?

Here comes bad news for Windows phone users. HERE Maps, one of the most popular apps for Lumia phones, will no longer be available on Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile. Read on to get the complete scoop.

If you have a Lumia phone running Windows 8.1, HERE Maps will still work on your device. But if you are planning to upgrade to Windows 10, and in case Microsoft releases an update, your device will not have the same compatibility. The brand will cease support starting June 30. Why is HERE Maps dropping out of Windows 10 handsets?

In a post published on HERE’s official blog, the company said, “To continue offering the HERE apps for Windows 10 would require us to redevelop the apps from the ground up, a scenario that led to the business decision to remove our apps from the Windows 10 store.”

Is there an alternative to this app? Yes! In the same blog post, the company further wrote, “For maps, routes and navigation, we recommend using the preinstalled Windows Maps application. The Windows Maps app contains many HERE elements since Microsoft has developed it using the HERE Platform and with assets they received from HERE in 2014. Based on your comments on HERE 360 and elsewhere, we know many of you are already having a good experience using Windows Maps.”

The app will also be removed from the Windows 10 Store on March 29. HERE maps lovers have only two options now: either stick to Windows 8 or switch to Windows Maps, which supports some of HERE map features. The latest OS from Microsoft is anyways going through a complete makeover, so expect more drastic changes.

I’ve been using Windows 10 for a few months now and absolutely love it compared to 7.
The devise to devise integration using the cloud is amazing,
I personally don’t know why anybody would not want to upgrade to 10 for free.
