Man Held For Stealing Plane After Committing Sex Crime On Child
Police say Evan Scott Grant, 27, a former student pilot, committed a sex crime against a friend’s child before he stole an airplane around the area of Las Vegas over the weekend.
Authorities said that the novice pilot had wanted a last-minute “joyride” before he was convicted on Tuesday.
Officials of North Las Vegas Airport called the police early Saturday morning to inform that Grant had made an illegal takeoff around midnight.
Before he stole the plane, Henderson police contacted him in connection to a sex crime he committed a day before, according to spokeswoman Michelle French.
While he was flying, Evan was fully in touch with air traffic controllers on the ground. He said while in flight, “I’m a pedophile. … I have been since I was 13.”
Over radio transmission, Grant apologized for stealing the plane and also for the crime he committed against the child.
“I’m just trying to enjoy what’s left of my last flight,” he said through the speaker.
Police arrested Grant on Tuesday and charged him with two counts of vulgar acts against a child. His bond amounts to $20,000.
