What's This?

Every operating system and every new device, no matter how excellent it is, comes with its own flaws and bugs. Though no one has encountered any serious problem with either Windows 10, the operating system or Windows 10 devices, Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL until recently. Reports about a Lumia 950 cellular data bug was discovered.

We are not sure if this is a bug that has come with any of the updates, but yes Lumia 950 cellular data is one of the major concerns for Windows 10 mobile users. Paul Thurrott first spoke about this issue on Thurrott after he observed that many users are complaining about exceeding monthly data limit on their phone even when they are using Wi-Fi.

Paul Thurrott in his report wrote, my Windows 10 Mobile-based Lumia 950 has been only used at home, where there is Wi-Fi access. Despite that, the handset has used almost 1 GB of cellular data over this billing period. And I can’t explain that.” He also mentioned that being an AT&T user, he gets to see exactly how much data has been used on his Lumia 950 and other devices on the same network. Speaking about his observation, he further added to the post, “I can also examine the 950’s data usage in Data Usage (Settings, Network & Wireless, Data Usage), which provides usage for both cellular and Wi-Fi. And I’ve used almost 1 GB of cell data somehow. The biggest culprit? The vaguely-named “System.” (Which I assume includes OS updates, but it’s unclear.)”

Not just Lumia 950 users, but other Windows mobile users have also been facing this issue. Many users took to Reddit to see if anyone else experiencing this Windows phone eating up cellular data issue. On the thread, a Microsoft employee replied saying, “The Data team is actively investigating your reports of this issue – thanks for bringing it to my attention … As some users already noted, turning off app backup and messaging sync should help reduce the data usage you’re seeing, but if it doesn’t please let us know.”

Probably the fault of an improper setting…like allowing syncing of photos (to OneDrive)
when on a “metered connection.”. No problems with my device.
