Lufthansa Launches Nonstop Flight Between San José And Frankfurt
For San José International Airport, things are looking up. San José Mayor Sam Liccardo has just announced that Lufthansa will be offering a new nonstop service between Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) and Frankfurt Rhine-Main International Airport (FRA). This makes Lufthansa the very first European carrier to offer nonstop flights from Silicon Valley to Europe.Advertisement
Under the new agreement between SJC and Lufthansa, Lufthansa will be offering five nonstop flights weekly on the Frankfurt to Silicon Valley route with the San José to Frankfurt flight departing at 3:20 PM and the Frankfurt to San José flight departing at 10:40 a.m. These flights will be serviced by two Airbus A340-300 aircraft that can seat up to 298 passengers on Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy.
Meanwhile, upon arriving in Frankfurt, passengers may be able to witness and experience the technological advancements of Frankfurt Airport’s first “Green Gate.” The idea for this E-PORT was actually conceived by the Lufthansa Group, Fraport AG, the State of Hesse and the Rhine-Main model electro-mobility region. And today, it is readily servicing both passengers and aircraft at the Lufthansa Gate A15.
What is unique about the E-PORT is that it manages to service aircraft with the use of electric vehicles, such as electric pallet trucks and hybrid aircraft tugs, in order to reduce emissions and noise. Moreover, this environmentally friendly and futuristic E-PORT also features solar-powered passenger airstairs as well as electric conveyor belt vehicles.
Meanwhile, Lufthansa will start offering flights between San José and Frankfurt on April 29, 2016. Tickets may be purchased here.
