Dark clouds loom over “Longmire” Season 6 as the show stands the risk to be cancelled once again, this time by Netflix.
Fans of “Longmire”, a series inspired by a mystery novel, are not unfamiliar to facing disappointment over their favorite show getting cancelled.
The show was first cancelled by A&E, which was out of the blue because the usual reason behind series getting dropped from networks did not pertain in this case, that is, low ratings.
Netflix was quick to realize that as well as the fact that the show has a decent fan following and decided to give it another chance by picking it up this year.
As Bustle points out, “Longmire” is not the only series that has been saved from getting axed by Netflix. It has had a big hand in saving shows like “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, “The Killing”, “Black Mirror”, “Gilmore Girls”, “Fuller House” etc. in the past.
One can argue the fact that Netflix does not have a history of cancelling its existing shows just because they are pulling in less than average viewership.
However, times are changing and there are cases when even the generous Netflix has to make some hard choices. Only recently the streaming service has announced that it will be cancelling “Bloodline” after the next season, reports Movie News Guide.
This comes as a surprise as “Bloodline” took home an Emmy this year for “Outstanding Supporting Actor – Drama Series”.
However, high production cost, Florida’s doing away of tax bonus for entertainment projects and other policy changes have been cited as the reasons behind Netflix reaching such an unusual decision.
This has led “Longmire” fans to panic as Netflix has not yet announced anything regarding the future of their show. If “Longmire” Season 6 does return, it will premiere sometime in fall next year.
