Lionel Messi Hunts Iraqi Kid Wearing Mock Jersey Made With Plastic Bags
Lionel Messi is not just this generation’s preeminent soccer player. He’s also a humanitarian.Advertisement
Last week, social media was abuzz after an Iraqi kid was pictured in Messi’s replica jersey. With “Messi” and “10” painted on, the jersey (see below) was somehow tacked together with plastic bags.
The kid lives in the war-torn region of Dohuk, Iraq. Needless to say, there are no original soccer jerseys available in those regions. Not even the Chinese-made mock jerseys that are sold on eBay.
Obviously, the kid worships Messi and found a way to honor his hero. Marvel at his improvisation: he actually managed to find bags with parallel blue lines that resemble the Argentinian jersey.
Messi is touched by the kid’s dedication and wants to hunt him down. According to Yahoo Sports, the Barcelona superstar wants to help the child and perhaps even send him an original jersey.
According to Messi’s fan account on Twitter, @Messi10stats, the superstar reached out to them in an effort to hunt down the young fan.
Here’s hoping the kid finds a surprise package in the mail very soon.
Lionel Messi, who recently won a record fifth Ballon D’Or, has done extensive work with UNICEF in the past. He, like many other Argentinians, emerged from humble beginnings.
