LG Announces World’s First 4K OLED TVs
LG has announced that the company’s and the world’s first line of 4K Curved OLED TVs will be made available in Korea, North America, and Europe in the near future.
“LG 4K OLED TV is the pinnacle of technological achievement and a new paradigm that will change the dynamics of the next generation TV market,” said Hyun-hwoi Ha, president and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “As the next evolutionary step in display technology, OLED will play a major role in reshaping our industry. I feel confident when I say that 4K OLED is a bona fide game changer.”
The LG 4K OLED TVs, which will have a 4K screen resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, will be available in two curved screen sizes measuring 77- and 65-inches. The new TVs feature LG’s proprietary Four-Color Pixel WRGB technology that uses the TVs 33 million sub-pixels to produce lifelike colors and infinite contrast ratio. Lastly, they feature LG’s multi-channel ULTRA SURROUND sound system which was designed in cooperation with Harman Kardon, a flowing, leaf-shaped stand, support for wall mounting, and the WebOS operating system.
“OLED TVs are expected to overtake LCD in sales within a few years and no company is better prepared for this than LG,” added Mr. Ha. “OLED’s benefits are obvious. There’s no deterioration in picture quality and issues such as image blurring, distortion and color leakage in curved LED units are simply non-existent on curved OLED TVs. 4K OLED TV represents superb value for the consumer in terms of color reproduction, contrast ratio, detail and viewing angles.”
The LG 4K OLED TV was originally unveiled back in CES 2014 and was a Best of Innovations award winner at the event. The new TVs will initially be available for pre-order only in Korea this week but will soon be available in North America and Europe as well. Both models will also be featured at this year’s IFA from September 5-10.
