LeBron James: Warriors Are Hungrier Than Cavs
LeBron James still gets nightmares about last season’s NBA Finals defeat against Golden State Warriors. With the new season underway, it seems the 12-0 Warriors have come out all guns blazing. LeBron has conceded that his 8-3 Cleveland Cavaliers aren’t as hungry as the reigning NBA champions.Advertisement
LeBron said that his team still lags behind the Warriors, admitting that a lot of work has to be done before the next postseason. “We haven’t done anything (to improve from last year),” LeBron said after his team lost their second consecutive a game, a 104-99 defeat to Detroit Pistons on Tuesday.
“We didn’t win anything (last year). We lost. We lost in the Finals. So that’s enough motivation for myself. I think we need to understand that. Like, we lost in the Finals. We didn’t win. And the team that beat us looks more hungry than we are. So it shouldn’t be that way,” an honest LeBron said.
LeBron felt his team lacked the intensity needed to take the next step. “We’re too relaxed and too nice. We’re just too nice,” an annoyed LeBron said. According ESPN, he gave his teammates a dressing down after the double-overtime loss to Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday.
David Blatt, the second-year Cavs coach, criticized his team’s approach for blowing up a 13-point second-half lead against the Pistons. “We need to toughen up,” Blatt admitted. “I didn’t think we displayed the kind of toughness that made us a team last year. I didn’t see that the last two games, and we need to toughen up – every aspect.”
Bookmakers have already penciled in a NBA finals rematch between Cavaliers and Warriors. Most experts feel Cavaliers’ path to the finals is easier because of the relatively weaker Eastern Conference. But the way Warriors are playing, so it’s hard to argue against a finals rematch.
Mark your calendars, now. The Warriors and Cavaliers face off on Christmas night.
