Laverne Cox plays Sophia Burset in the popular Netflix drama, “Orange Is The New Black,” which is now gearing up for season 4. The character that she is about to play was originally portrayed by Tim Curry in the 1975 cult classic film. While other cast members are to be finalized, Cox has secured her role in the project.
As per the press release, “‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ is from Fox 21 Television Studios and The Jackal Group. Adler and Berman will serve as executive producers. Emmy Award winner Kenny Ortega (‘High School Musical’ franchise, ‘This Is It,’ ‘Descendants,’ ‘Hocus Pocus,’ ‘Newsies’) will direct, choreograph and executive-produce.”
Fox also mentioned that it “follows sweethearts Janet Weiss and Brad Majors, who stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s bizarre abode. Frank-N-Furter, a sexually ambiguous flirtatious alien mad-scientist, is holding an annual, Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of ‘Rocky Horror’ – a fit, attractive man created solely to fulfil Frank’s desires.”
The whole production of the 2-hour-long television project will be overseen by Kenny Ortega of “High School Musical” fame who will be directing, choreographing and producing the movie. The other producer is Gail Berman. He has a passion towards the classic and decided to go forward with the project in 2014. The story is written by Richard O’Brien.
