Lakers Vs Warriors: Klay Thompson scored 36 points (12-22 FG, 6-12 3pt) as the Golden State Warriors crushed the Los Angeles Lakers 109-88 at the Staples Center Tuesday night. With the victory, the Warriors improved their record to 33-2.
Warriors, the reigning NBA champions, had their full squad healthy again. Haarrison Barnes had 10 points and 8 rebounds from 23 minutes off the bench. Stephen Curry played 26 minutes for his 17 points and 6 assists.
Draymond Green entered the game on the back of a hat-trick of triple-doubles. The Michigan-native finished with 9 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists from 28 minutes. Perhaps, if the contest was more keenly contested, Green would have eclipsed the franchise triple-double record that was set way back in 1959-60. Also, he would have joined Russell Westbrook and Michael Jordan as only player to register four consecutive triple-doubles.
For the Lakers, Jordan Clarkson led the way with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Louis Williams and Ryan Kelly added 10 points apiece. Julius Randle had a forgettable night – shooting 1/8 from the field for his 2 points and 9 rebounds.
The Lakers were without D’Angelo Russell and Kobe Bryant. While Russell is recovering from a throat infection, Bryant is still recovering from a sore right shoulder. In the absence of Bryant, veteran Metta World Peace saw added playing time. In 25 minutes off the bench, World Peace had 6 points and 3 assists.
The Lakers will next travel to Sacramento on Friday. The Warriors don’t play until Saturday in a road game against Portland Trailblazers.
