What's This?

The Los Angeles Lakers are desperate for a quality big man. The front office is engaging Orlando Magic in talks to possibly land Nikola Vucevic or Channing Frye before the February 18 deadline, according to latest Lakers trade rumors.

Orlando have won only 3 of their 18 games in 2016. And if the losing continues, they could be pushing the reset button and give in to possible suitors.

Vucevic and Frye are definitely suspect on defense. But both bigs have enormous potential when it comes to low-post scoring and running good pick-and-roll plays for D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson and Lou Williams.

The Orlando Magic Daily explored a hypothetical trade which see the Magic get Brandon Bass, Roy Hibbert, Lou Williams and Nick Young while the Lakers get Vucevic. “The appeal of getting a shooter like Lou Williams and Nick Young is real. Both can light it up and the Magic could use the scoring off the bench,” wrote the fan website.

Why Magic would make this trade?

It’s clear that they are building around the young trio of Aaron Gordon, Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo. There is a feeling that Vucevic and Frye are defensive liabilities and curtail the young Orlando team from reaching its full potential.

Why Lakers would make this trade?

It’s simple, really. They are desperate for a post-scoring big, especially after passing up on Jahlil Okafor during the 2015 NBA Draft. The Roy Hibbert experiment has failed miserably. And there is no chance for either Hibbert or Lakers to continue that partnership going forward.

Despite all the trade buzz, Vucevic is hoping the Orlando Magic don’t trade him at the deadline. “That’s no reason to think we need to change anything. We have to find a way within each other to get back to what we were doing early in the year. We just got to find a way to get out of this (losing slump,” said the Swiss center.

“Trades or whatever…I don’t think about that — that’s not my job — and I never will,” added Vucevic.
