Lakers Rumors: Nick Young, the veteran swingman, is on his way out of Los Angeles this offseason. Though the Lakers have been trying to trade Young for the last few seasons, the recent controversy surrounding D’Angelo Russell has given the front office a new reason to ship the 8-year veteran.

According to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers will find it hard to get a suitor for Young. “The Lakers tried to trade Young, 30, each of the last two seasons as his production dropped. There were no takers. They will likely try to find a home for him again this off-season, which won’t be easy with a player who didn’t even get off the bench in eight games last month,” he revealed.

Losing trade value…

Young, who signed a 4-year deal with the Lakers prior to the 2014-15 season, has another two years left on his contract with a player option for the 2017-18 season. Since signing that contract, Young has seen a year-by-year drop in production, averaging just 7.3 points this season from 19 minutes per game. Back in 2013-14, Young finished the season as the Lakers’ top scorer in the absence of Kobe Bryant – who missed most of the season with an Achilles injury.

Who can the Lakers get in return for Young? Perhaps a second-round pick? Young is, at best, a spark plug off the bench who can score some points in a hurry. However, he’s a career 41% shooter and has shot less than 40% over the last few seasons. Young’s lack of efficiency has hurt his trade value.

Nicknamed “Swaggy P,” Young has been adored by Lakers fans for his swagger and ability to score points in a hurry. However, his recent controversy involving D’Angelo Russell hasn’t helped. In fact, there is legitimate concern that Russell and Young could get involved in a physical fight.

Russell will fight back…

When asked how Russell would react if Swaggy P took a swing at him, the fearless rookie said,“I’d get physical back. It’s a point where you try to solve it the right way and I don’t know the words, but (if) there’s a sign of disrespect or violence is involved, sometimes you’ve got to let people feel you, you’ve got to let people know that, ‘If you disrespect this guy, you know you’ve got to bring it.’”

Will the Lakers locker room ever recover from this incident?
