Nick Young has forgiven D’Angelo Russell. But that’s what the Los Angeles Lakers PR team and Young himself want you to believe.
Barely hours after Young addressed a news conference, in which he accepted Russell’s apology, the veteran swingman tweeted, “What I accept?” before quickly deleting the same. Was Young forced to begrudgingly accept the rookie’s apology?
Bleacher Report reported: “In a gesture that could be interpreted as anything from the consideration of forgiveness (with an interrogative twist) to a virtual scoff at the very implication, the message was later deleted.”
According to TMZ, Lakers top bosses on Wednesday organized a sit-down meeting between Young and Russell to hash things out. However, the meeting didn’t go as well as desired. A TMZ report reads, “Sources close to Young tell us he accepted Russell’s apology and the beef is squashed for now…but as our source put it, Everything is cool but it isn’t going to be the same.”
Izzy Azalea to dump Nick Young?
TMZ also reported that pop star Iggy Azalea, Young’s fiancé, is “reevaluating her relationship with Nick and is considering calling off the engagement.” Azalea apparently went horseback-riding to clear her head from the controversy that has taken social media by storm over the last 24 hours.
Earlier on Wednesday, Russell acknowledged that he has put Young’s relationship in jeopardy. “Honestly, I do. I’ve always been known as a guy that plays around a lot, and he has been, too. To be around somebody that’s similar, with the same similar characteristics, is different. He’s one of the guys that I’ve always talked to about anything, and I cherished our friendship. For me to have an incident like this come up and put it in jeopardy is not what I was intending to do,” said Russell of his teammate and roommate.
Meanwhile, Young said that he and Russell needed to talk things over. “I think it’s best that me and D’Angelo handle the situation we have in a private manner outside the media. I think it’s something we really do need to sit down and talk about. That’s about it. What happened is what happened. We’ve got to work on it,” Young, nicknamed “Swaggy P” told reporters in a news conference.
Regardless, it’s highly unlikely that D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young are teammates next year. Expect one of the two to get traded and it will most likely be Young.
