Lakers Rumors: D’Angelo Russell Will Be Traded Only For A Superstar
Lakers Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers could be willing to trade rookie D’Angelo Russell over the summer. But it won’t happen unless they receive a superstar in return, according to sources close to the organization.Advertisement
For a better part of the season, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has maintained that Russell, Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle are “off limits” when it comes to trade talks. However, Russell’s recent controversy involving Nick Young, which led to the storied franchise receiving a ton of bad press, has changed the team’s stance.
For the sake of the locker room…
Last week, NBA veterans Raja Bell and Rip Hamilton urged the Lakers to trade Russell to avoid future locker room troubles. “You (Russell) have to go. I say that emotionally right now. Give it some time maybe I change my mind. As Raja Bell, NBA player for 13 years, being a general manager, one of my youngins does that, you gotta go. Give me something else,” said Bell, a great perimeter defender in his heydays.
Hamilton, who was part of the Detroit Pistons squad that beat the Lakers in the 2004 NBA Finals, said it would be very difficult to ignore what happened. “I’m going to isolate him (Russell) like they did. And two, I’m going to have no more conversation for him.”
Lakers Rumors: Who can Russell fetch?
According to a source close to the Lakers, the team won’t consider trading Russell unless disgruntled superstars such as DeMarcus Cousins, Kyrie Irving or Jimmy Butler are made available. All those three players have been reportedly unhappy with their respective teams.
Earlier on Monday, Fansided’s Bulls website had an interesting trade scenario featuring Russell and Butler. “Jimmy Butler and Cameron Bairstow for D’Angelo Russell, a first-round draft pick in 2016 and a sum of cash to be determined,” was Scenario 1. The website suggested Scenario 2 as “Jimmy Butler and Tony Snell for D’Angelo Russell, first-round draft pick in 2016 and a sum of cash to be determined.”
Russell and Bulls could be a great fit. Remember, Derrick Rose will be a free agent next season and has hinted at the possibility of leaving his hometown. In fact, there’s a strong possibility that Rose gets traded this offseason.
